Fulham Transfer Rumour Round-Up: Summer 2022, Edition 7

Written by Cameron Ramsey on 12th August 2022

Fulham are wheeling and dealing and Cam’s back at it with another rumour round-up to tide you over until Match of the Day at least.

Matters in the current transfer period have escalated rapidly for Fulham and with seven fresh faces to acquaint ourselves with over the season ahead, the probability of even more signings is inevitable as Marco Silva constructs a team that’s designed and primed for Premier League football.

Harry Wilson and Manor Solomon are going to be out of action for quite some time and that means the Whites will need to dip into the market yet again to remedy those untimely injuries of ours. With just over half a month to finalise the class of 2022/23 until January, could any of these here names be pressed onto the back of a Fulham shirt of your choice? Let’s have a butchers.

Jannik Vestergaard – Leicester City

A recent article published by the Daily Mail suggests that rather than joining Fulham for an alleged figure of £12m, Jannik Vestergaard would prefer to depart Leicester City on loan instead, with the 2022 Qatar World Cup looming in the distance.

The Denmark international centre-half has been angling for a fresh start throughout the transfer window, or so it seemed, because despite what’s been channelled in the English media, the 30-year-old defender is expected to remain at the King Power Stadium to fight for his spot in Brendan Rodgers’ squad, according to reports from his native country.

Abdou Diallo – Paris Saint-Germain

Now Issa Diop is finally a Fulham player, of course, the Whites’ centre-back options appear to be plentiful and while we do indeed have adequate cover, renowned Italian journalist Rudy Galetti disclosed that Silva’s side will supposedly grapple with West Ham United and AC Milan for Paris Saint-Germain’s Abdou Diallo.

The 26-year-old defender joined PSG in 2019 and has made 75 competitive appearances to date. The serial Ligue 1 champions are willing to offload the Frenchman but given Fulham’s transfer business in the last few days, it’s unlikely that they’ll enter negotiations, especially as the Hammers will be eager to fill the gap Diop subsequently left behind.

Ludovic Ajorque – RC Strasbourg

Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol understands that a quartet of Premier League clubs are chasing the signature of RC Strasbourg’s £18m-rated Ludovic Ajorque and Fulham are thought to be one of the engaged parties.

As well as the Whites, Everton, West Ham and Newcastle United are also said to be monitoring the striker’s availability with good reason. Last season, Strasbourg finished 6th in the French top-flight standings and Ajorque, 28, fired 12 goals in 31 domestic starts, so his ability in front of the target is pronounced and important.

Willian – Free Agent

This rumour is gathering pace, fast, and nobody quite knows what to make of it. As per a report released by Goal, former Chelsea and Arsenal attacker Willian is nearing a move back to SW6 with Fulham after terminating his contract at Brazilian side Corinthians.

His family is supposedly unsettled in Brazil and the Whites are believed to be the frontrunners for the vastly-experienced 34-year-old and his Premier League knowhow. If we’re searching for genuine top-flight depth, perhaps Willian would pad-out the squad nicely but frankly, I’m not a fan of this proposed deal and I hope it doesn’t materialise, regardless of how light we may currently be out wide.

Victor Nelsson – Galatasaray SK

Well-known Italian publication Tuttomercatoweb revealed that Fulham apparently have their eye on Galatasaray centre-half Victor Nelsson and could even pip La Liga outfit Sevilla to the 23-year-old’s sought-after services.

Nelsson, 23, has gone from strength to strength at the Turkish Super Lig giants and understandably, his name is writ large on the Whites’ transfer scanner. As Cimbom will be reluctant to part ways with their promising Danish defender, a sizable figure will need to be pledged and while Fulham have decent options to pick and choose from, Nelsson would still be a tremendous addition.

Bamba Dieng – Olympique de Marseille

Disclosed and verified by 90min, Fulham are said to be pushing hard for Marseille 22-year-old striker Bamba Dieng and if the Whites wish to land the surplus Senegal international, a fee of £15m will need to be paid in full.

Igor Tudor has swung the axe at the Stade Velodrome and Dieng is a victim. The Ligue 1 club have acquired Luis Suarez and Alexis Sanchez this summer so room has to be made in order to accommodate their new signings but as we’re all aware, that’s just football.

Ui-Jo Hwang – FC Girondins de Bordeaux

Another target man from across the English Channel, Bordeaux’s Ui-Jo Hwang – subject to a report published by the Daily Mail – is thought to be attracting the watchful gaze of both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham.

Although his club were relegated to the French second division last season, the 29-year-old South Korea representative still managed to contribute 11 goals and 2 assists and as Les Girondins will only seek to receive £4m, Hwang would be a particularly economical purchase, and one that could also be a fairly capable understudy to Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Jason Denayer – Free Agent

Those at Football Insider revealed that Fulham have been granted the chance to capture Jason Denayer on a Bosman after the Belgium international defender’s contract at his former club, Olympique Lyonnais, expired during the summer.

Referred to Silva by Belgium international manager Roberto Martinez, Denayer is highly adaptable and he is comfortable in a range of defensive-minded roles. Practiced at centre-half, right-back and even as a midfield anchor, the 27-year-old would prove to be our next-gen Denis Odoi however his wages are believed to be a major stumbling block.
