Fulham 3-0 Millwall - The look back
Fulham 3-0 Millwall
So the cliché goes: champions win even when they don’t play well.
That was the case last night as we put Millwall away 3-0 without really moving out of second gear.
The headlines belonged to Mitro, who bagged his 29th and 30th goals of a campaign that’s now almost certainly record-breaking; he’s one away from the modern Championship record, and we’re only just into February.
His first came from some wonderful play between Welshmen Harry Wilson and Neco Williams, with the latter cutting a ball back across the box for Aleksandar to gobble up.
We were two up after the break, where Mitro pounced again after a host of Whites players snatched at the ball in the box. And the third came three minutes from the end of normal time; Mitro slotted a perfect ball into the path of Wilson, who set up Carvalho – but the ball looked to be inching wide, so Bobby De Cordova-Reid popped it in the net, after timing his run perfectly.
Mitro bagged the headlines, but the night belonged to the late Paul Parish; the applause rang out on 11 minutes, and Silva and the boys embraced Paul’s family at full-time. Rest in peace, Paul.
WHAT THEY SAID
▪️ Marco Silva: We started a bit slow in our decisions but then we began to command the game. The clean sheet is really important. We've achieved fantastic scores over the last few games but we've also conceded six goals. We know how important it is to keep clean sheets.
▪️ Tim Ream: What a tribute on the 11th minute. I don’t hear much once the whistle goes but I heard that. Those 3 pts are for Paul Parish and his family. I can’t imagine the strength it must have taken to be there tonight Clare and Fliss. You have our full support.
▪️ Cam Ramsey: Everything about Fulham Football Club is precious and beautiful. Together, we honoured Paul Parish and his unbelievably inspiring family, and we will continue to do him proud. This is why our wholesome little pocket of SW6 is worth giving a damn about. We care for our own.
