Cardiff 0-1 Fulham - The look back
Cardiff 0-1 Fulham
We're running out of superlatives for our Serbian striker. Every goal he scores is now a history maker, and he just doesn't seem like stopping anytime soon.
His 34th of the season came in South Wales as Fulham edged past a rough and ready Cardiff side who made the afternoon a robust affair, as we knew they would.
The goal came towards the end of the first half as Mitro - at this stage inexplicably unmarked - headed home a pinpoint Wilson cross at the far post.
Games like this - like our win at Hull earlier this month - are the ones that show the true character of this side. Cardiff were full-blooded and made life difficult for us, but we held on, showed our class, and came away with three points.
The game ended in a bit of red mist after Cavaleiro was elbowed in the head off the ball. It was typical of a Bluebirds side desperate to stop the rot. They now sit 20th, while we're nine points clear of Bournemouth, albeit having played two more games.
It's a really interesting game at home to Blackburn next week, which could go some way to determining how the back end of this season will shake out.
WHAT THEY SAID
▪️ Marco Silva: We knew what type of game it would be. We always expect first and second balls and balls in our box. Apart from one moment when we slept completely, we dealt really well with the situation. We controlled big parts of the match. We were a bit slower than I wanted, but we created enough, we were the best team and deserved the three points.
▪️ Harrison Reed: +3 away from home. Enjoy the weekend, Fulham fans!
▪️ Sammy James: Brilliant, brilliant win. Cardiff are little thugs, but we got the job done regardless. These battling one-goal wins are just as important as the more headline-grabbing ones in my opinion. Win our games in hand and we are SIXTEEN points clear of third 🤩

Hard-fought wins are probably the sweetest. That one felt good. It's a tough game against a promotion rival next.
