Fulham 0-2 Chelsea- The look back
It was a bad night at the office, as defeat in the SW6 derby raises questions over key players.
It’s safe to say we’ve not got going yet at the Cottage this season.
The Whites fell rather meekly to a Chelsea side that - as Domino’s gleefully told everyone who’d listen - hadn’t scored in the time it took them to shift 10 million pizzas (roughly a month).
But thanks to a missed Diop header and a Tim Ream nightmare ball, those lot scored twice in less than a minute to wrap this derby up.
Chelsea took the lead on 18 minutes; Mykhailo Mudryk lapped up a cross from Levi Colwill after 6 ft 4 in Diop failed to intercept it. Unfortunate, but not catastrophic.
What happened next was. Almost immediately from kick-off, Tim Ream handed the ball to Cole Palmer, who threaded in Armando Broja - and suddenly the game was over.
We were shell-shocked, and in truth offered very little. The second half saw an improvement of sorts, with Alex Iwobi, Carlos Vinicius, and later, Tom Cairney, coming on to provide a bit more spark, but in truth it was a routine win for Chelsea at a time where they have found routine wins hard to come by.
Three played at home, two derby defeats, and one narrow win that hardly set the pulses racing. Sheffield United visit the Cottage on Saturday - it’s time to give the fans something to sink their teeth into. But whatever the result, you can celebrate or drown your sorrows with us at the Half Moon Putney for Fulhamish Live. We’d love to see you - grab your ticket here.
What they said
Marco Silva: It is clear at this level and against these types of teams we cannot make the mistakes we made. We were punished for the mistakes we made.
Alex Iwobi: Dust Down, Go Again.
George Rossiter: Defensive errors may have cost Fulham but it’s not unfair to say that the team simply didn’t show up, especially in the opening 45 minutes.
