West Brom 1-0 Fulham - The look back
West Brom 1-0 Fulham
There's nothing like a loss to humble you.
Talk of what game we'll clinch promotion and how many points and goals we might rack up come May can now firmly be put on ice - we're not there yet. And, based on Tuesday night, if and when we do get there, we have lots of work to do if we want any chance of staying there.
It was very unlike Marco Silva's Fulham to fail so miserably to get out of first gear, but that's exactly what happened against a West Brom side who, in fairness, have been fairly resolute at home this term, despite sitting firmly in mid-table.
We failed to register a single shot in the first half - a statistic that really set the tone for the second. It was in the second half that we conceded, with Callum Robinson putting the hosts ahead and on their way to inflicting our first away defeat since the 4-1 gubbing at Coventry.
We have two and a half weeks to recover mentally and physically. But we're still well on our way. Let's hope we use the break well.
WHAT THEY SAID
▪️ Marco Silva: It was not good enough. In the first half we were not here - it was just our shirts on the pitch. I don't want to be unfair on West Brom because they were the best team and they deserved to win. We didn't express ourselves, and they did what we expected.
▪️ Nathaniel Chalobah: It is a kick up the backside really. We can’t rest on our laurels, we still have a lot to do.
▪️ Adam Farquaharson: Two weeks with no matches for Fulham couldn’t have come at a better time. Rest and recovery needed for many of the squad. We’ll be back stronger, fitter and firing our way to the Premier League on all cylinders before you know it.
