Liverpool 1-0 Fulham - The look back
A narrow - and controversial - defeat at Anfield condemns the Whites to their third loss in a row.
There’ll be debate about this one for a while.
Liverpool ran out winners at Anfield thanks to a Mohammed Salah penalty, but should it have been given?
The referee pointed to the spot after Issa Diop dithered in possession an Darwin Nunez picked the ball up on the edge of the box. Diop proceeded to swipe his leg in what looked like an attempted to hack the Liverpool attacker down, though the replay showed no contact was made.
There’ll be people on both sides of the fence, but the incident gave Liverpool the lead just before half-time, and that’s the way the score stayed.
We were quite good in the first half, too. Carlos Vinicius forced a good save from Alisson early on. The Brazilian ‘keeper was forced into action again in the last 15 minutes as his compatriot Carlos attempted to grab an equaliser for the travelling Whites.
But it wasn’t to be. We must now look forward to three games against teams below us, as we look to equal or beat our record points total and remain in the top half of the Premier League. You Whites.
What they said
Marco Silva: Today in football to give a penalty like that, after the VAR didn't take that penalty [away] it is difficult to understand. I will not say nothing more because after it will be difficult for me and I don't want to create more problems for me. It is difficult to understand that penalty.
Cedric Soares: We deserved more tonight. Great effort from all the lads! Thanks to our fans for their amazing support at Anfield.
Jack Collins: Incredibly frustrating for Fulham that - been a bit harem scarem at the back at times, but generally felt like we were settling into this one, only for a silly error to give away the pen. Pure stupidity from Diop to let that roll across him, even if it's soft as they come.
