Fulham 5-3 Leicester City - The look back
The whites dispatch the Foxes with five goals - including two from our skipper, who rolled back the years.
Well, where do you start?
Craven Cottage was treated to a classic end-of-season game on Monday, as Fulham and relegation-threatened Leicester put on an eight-goal thriller.
The Whites started strongly and found themselves three up at the break. A long-range hit from Willian, a confident finish from an in-form Carlos Vinicius and a sumptuous right-footed goal from Captain Tom Cairney had the crowd purring.
TC added a fourth at the Hammersmith End shortly after the break - an the rout was on.
But this is Fulham - and even the most comfortable victories have to feature some adversity. First, Bernd Leno brought Jamie Vardy down in the box - before comfortably saving his effort from 12 yards. Then Harvey Barnes hit a shot so vicious it nearly broke the crossbar, to make it 4-1.
Willian restored out four-goal cushion with 20 minutes left with another long-range effort. But there was a bit more to come from Leicester. First, James Madison put away the Foxes’ second spot-kick of the afternoon Joao Palhinha brought the England man down in the box. Then Barnes got his second of the afternoon after a mistake from substitute Shane Duffy.
Three goals conceded at home for only the second time this season, but the result was never in doubt. Football’s a funny game. That’s our 14th win of this amazing season. Points total aside - that’s equalled our Premier League record. It’s been a helluva season - and it’s not over yet.
What they said
Marco Silva: We clearly deserved the three points and it should have been much more comfortable. Great team performance. Great moments of football, great goals. The way we played from the first minute was really good.
Tom Cairney: Who said I didn’t have a right foot?! Some performance from the boys.
Jack Kelly: One of those silly end of season games, just cracking entertainment. Also thought we were scintillating at times! Willian is so good and wonderful to see Tom Cairney scoring Premier League goals! Great stuff!
