Fulham 2-2 Liverpool - The look back
Fulham 2-2 Liverpool
Well, talk about satisfying.
The boys in white shut a few people up this weekend - and showed that, whatever happens this season, we won't be easily beaten.
The tempo was high from the outset, but from minute one we kept up with Liverpool, not letting them have any time to settle into the game and dictate it.
New boy Joao Palhinha was a man mountain in the centre of the park, perfectly combining intensity with precision, and was a huge part of all the good we were doing.
The Cottage erupted on 32 minutes, as some lovely work down the right resulted in a pin-point ball from Kenny Tete that was met by none other than Aleksander Mitrovic, who towered over Trent Alexander-Arnold to head home the opener.
We held that lead until 64 minutes, when Liverpool new boy Darwin Nunez levelled things. But that parity would last less than 10 minutes; Virgil Van Dijk, who has surely had better afternoons, brought down Mitro in the box. the decision survived VAR scrutiny, and our super Serb slotted it into the bottom right of the net to put us 2-1 up.
Sadly, Liverpool and - predictably - Salah, pulled one back with just 10 minutes of normal time to go, before Henderson rattled the crossbar in added time, but it wasn't their day - and the day wasn't about them.
Fulham are back - and this time, it feels different.
WHAT THEY SAID
▪️Marco Silva: In the box Mitro will score if you provide him good chances. But I repeat something I said last season maybe 20 times: Mitro is not just a goalscorer for us. He did an unbelievable job for us without the ball.
▪️Tosin Adarabioyo: A positive start and a point on the board. Something to build on as we look forward to the next game.
▪Jack Collins: I’m a very happy boy. Mitro off the mark, Fulham playing our own way and it working, Palhinha smashing up stuff in the middle. Go on the boys. Can’t ask for more than that.
