Fulham 1-4 Newcastle United - The look back
Fulham 1-4 Newcastle United
The less said about that, the better.
Let's keep it short and sweet, shall we? Nathaniel Chalobah's rash and early red card will (rightly) soak up all the ire of the Fulham Faithful, but in truth a woefully under-par Fulham side fell to a Newcastle team that finally clicked into gear after threatening to during its recent run of draws.
Callum Wilson put the Magpies ahead just three minutes after Chalobah saw red, and it was downhill from there. Miguel Almiron will take all the plaudits with his double, the first being a YouTube-able volley.
Three down at half-time, we lost Mitrovic to an apparent injury, while deputising full-backs Mbabu and debutant Layvin Kurzawa were both hauled off before the break. But amazingly, we 'drew the second half', with Bobby De Cordova-Reid pulling one back late on.
Our worst performance of the season - possibly our worst performance under Marco Silva. But the boys must put it behind them and learn from it. You Whites.
WHAT THEY SAID
▪️Marco Silva: Yes it was a disappointing afternoon, a strange afternoon. The red card made a huge impact in the game and the second goal killed our belief.
▪️Tom Cairney: It was definitely a better performance in the second half, but you’re not going to win Premier League games if you’re 3-0 down at half-time. We knew it was damage limitation.
▪️Jack Collins: Torn apart with 10. Silly tackle, is what it is. Thought Kurzawa and Mbabu were poor as well first half, but too easy to play through and ultimately a man light in midfield we were always going to struggle with any sort of control. Happens sometimes. Put it behind & onwards.
