Fulham 0-3 Arsenal - The look back
The Whites are comprehensively beaten by the league leaders in a bad day at the office.
That rounded off a poor week.
Having taken nine games to concede six goals, we’ve now shipped the same amount in just two.
Some perspective, though: Arsenal will probably win the league this year. If not, they’ll run Man City to the final day. And they are a sensational football side. That said, we didn’t make things as hard for the Gunners as we should have.
The game was over by half time, with all three Arsenal goals coming before the break. Leandro Trossard assisted three times - first, a corner headed in by Gabriel, then a cross for Gabriel Martinelli just five minutes later, and finally a ball for Martin Odegaard just before the whistle.
We managed the stop the rot in the second half, but we were far from impressive, and the damage had already been done. We might not have expected to win this one, but we’d have all hoped to give it a bit of a go; Bournemouth took Arsenal to the 97th minute. Our goose was well and truly cooked by the 47th.
But we must dust ourselves off now and look to the FA Cup. Our quarter-final with Manchester United awaits. Win, and we’re back at Wembley with a real chance of writing a special chapter in our history. Lose, and our sole focus will be to finish in the top half of the Premier League for the first time in 11 years.
It’s not doom and gloom - we’re just victims of rising standards. You Whites.
What they said
Marco Silva: It was a tough game for us against a top side. We were flat and didn't show any fire in the game. There was no intensity. Lots of things went against us and I don't need to talk about their quality because it was more about ourselves.
Andreas Pereira: Sh*tty days happen. But we have already shown that we are capable of turning things around.
Joe Sansom: Two really disappointing performances this week. It was time for others to step up with Palhinha out but it didn’t happen. Won’t too critical on the group after such a wonderful season, but performances have been below par for a while now. Need to step it up for the Cup next week.
