Fulham 0-0 Everton - The look back
Fulham 0-0 Everton
So, a 0-0 draw at the Cottage. In the Premier League. In front of fans. Rare as hen's teeth, those.
We huffed and we puffed on Saturday, but we couldn't quite blow Everton's house down. 24 shots, six on target. But we shouldn't feel too aggrieved.
We're still firmly nestled in the top half of the Premier League, and we're unbeaten in our last four - taking an average of two points a game. That's not just survival form, that's European form.
The stalemate had two flashpoints. First, Mitro received a yellow in the first half for a clumsy, studs-up challenge on Idrissa Gueye. Lampard (of course) thinks he should've seen red, but in truth, it was probably in the fabled 'orange card' zone.
The second was a clear penalty that were were denied. If you weren't there, you'll be forgiven if you missed it - no one seems to be covering it. Willian was brought down in the box, the ref consulted VAR, but decided it wasn't worth of a spot kick. Baffling.
The points shared, then. But ahead of our pre-World Cup Manchester double-header, we can feel pretty happy with how everything's going so far.
WHAT THEY SAID
▪️Marco Silva: A really unfair result, definitely. We were the best team on the pitch. We controlled the game and pushed them back, we had 13 corners and we created so many moments inside their box, normally we win this game.
▪️Bernd Leno: We deserved more tonight. We keep pushing hard. Craven Cottage was on fire again.
Adam Farquharson: Big statement, but Willian is already becoming one of the most intelligent wingers I’ve ever seen play for Fulham. He’s not a speed demon, but he sees the entire picture - and that gives him time to shine brightly for us.
