Aston Villa 3-1 Fulham - The look back
That's three defeats from four between the international breaks. But, hey - at least Raul scored.
And so, the curtain closes on a miserable run between international breaks.
We knew it’d be a tough game at Villa Park, and so it proved. But once again, we’re left disappointed at the clear lack of quality, particularly in the first half. We went in 2-0 down thanks to an Antonee Robinson own goal and a John McGinn strike.
Villa made it three on just after the hours through Ollie Watkins, but the Whites were visibly improved in the second half, and got a consolation goal, with Raul Jimenez bagging his first Premier League goal in 32 attempts. You’d hope it would spark a mini run from the Mexican, but at such is our lack of creativity at the moment you’d not bet on him getting many more chances!
The creative spark looked far brighter when Harry Wilson came on yesterday, however. The Welsh wizard put in a man-of-the-match performance after coming on at half-time. He’ll be hoping he’s done enough to regain a starting berth when the Whites return from the international break.
That was hard, but the run up to Christmas offers more opportunities to get points on the board, with home games against Wolves, West Ham, and Burnley. We need to take advantage of those, or our six-point cushion on the bottom three will get thinner.
What they said
Marco Silva: The way we played in the second half, we showed our quality. The first half, no. Some details I don’t like to call unlucky. Another own goal. Even the second goal, two players fight for the ball. They’re not normal things..
Raul Jimenez: I’m happy to score my first goal for Fulham, but the result wasn’t what we wanted.
Joe Sansom: Delighted for Jimenez. Wilson has to start vs Wolves (gutted about no Palhinha). Nothing else to say.

With this torrid portion of the season now behind us, we lick our wounds and return to a kinder run of fixtures (bar Liverpool) - starting with Wolves at the Cottage.
