Swansea 1-5 Fulham - The look back
Swansea 1-5 Fulham
It was a game of two halves on Tuesday.
The first 45 was largely uneventful, with Swansea holding the Whites at arm’s length, until Ryan Manning saw red less than five minutes before the break for a studs up challenge on Harry Wilson. We all thought it’d change the game – and so it did.
The second half was relentless. It took just 14 seconds for Mitro to notch up league goal number 35; another assist from Wilson solidifying what’s become quite the double act. Harrison Reed came the closest he’s come so far to bagging for the Whites, forcing Cabango to turn it into his own net seven minutes later.
It was then time for substitute Bobby De-Cordova Reid to get in on the act, scoring just five minutes after entering the field; he slotted home a header across the box from Wilson (assist number two of the game and 14 of the season). Piroe pulled one back for the Swans minutes later, but we weren’t to be deterred.
We were purring, but the night belonged to on-loan right-back Neco Williams. The Welshman scored our fourth and fifth to cap a fine team - and individual - performance. First he smashed home the rebound from a BDR shot, before hitting a sublime half-volley with five minutes left to round off the rout. Little did Kenny know when he smashed his Tetes in January, that his replacement would cause him even more discomfort.
Bournemouth’s draw with Peterborough moves us 14 points clear at the top of the Championship, with 11 games remaining. What a night. What a team. What a season.
WHAT THEY SAID
▪️ Marco Silva: After the red card, the game changed. It was key for us to score in the first minute of the second half. They take many risks in those situations and we pressed them and forced the mistake, then it was a matter of time until we scored more. It wasn't our best performance but I have to congratulate the players.
▪️ Tim Ream: That felt like a weird match 🥴…no matter, 3 points is 3 points. Kudos to those who made the long journey on a Tuesday night. Andiamo!!
▪️ Ben Jarman: It is not "if" we get promoted this year, it is 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 now. Fulham are absolutely sublime, what a team.
