Newcastle United 3-0 Fulham - The look back
Well, our two-game, 10-goals purple patch came to an abrupt halt as Raul's early red helped the Magpies cruise to victory.
Well, it was good while it lasted!
The Whites fell to defeat in the North East after Raul Jimenez ditched his recently-acquired hero status for one of a villain, seeing red after a little more than 20 minutes on Saturday.
Granted, there are mitigating circumstances around Jimenez’s head loss; a meaty elbow from Lascelles minutes earlier got his blood up (particularly due to his head injury), but the fact is, if you put yourself in that position, you’re going to be in trouble - VAR or no VAR.
We took it to the break level, but we were always going to struggle a man down. Newcastle got their goal jsut before the hour mark; 17-year old Lewis Miley became the club’s youngest Premier League goalscorer. Good for him, I guess.
Almiron tapped in for Newcastles second less than 15 minutes later, before Dan Burn bundled home to make it three.
Marco Silva berated referee Sam Barrott in his post-match comments, in a move that’ll no doubt see him watching from the stands again in the near future. And although it’s a bitter pill to swallow, the boys have to dust themselves down and focus on our first Carabao Cup quarter-final in two decades, which comes quickly this Tuesday.
This game is history. Now it’s time to make history. You Whites.
What they said
Marco Silva: It was a really strange performance from the referee from the first minute to the last minute. Lascelles clearly elbowed Raul and not even a foul. I'm not saying red card, but a clear foul. You need referees with experience and to be able to handle the pressure.
Raul Jimenez: Disappointed, but I take my responsibility and this won’t stop us! We will fight against everything to bounce back.
Sammy James: It's possibly a coincidence, but Fulham seem to have a real ability to shoot themselves in the foot through ill discipline just as things get good.

Up next: Everton (A)
This one is huge. Everton are a club on the up, despite any league-related points penalties. It’ll be tough, but the reward is worth the fight.
