Leicester City 0-1 Fulham - The look back
Leicester City 0-1 Fulham
Crikey, that was tense.
To survive in the Premier League you need a mix of ingredients - none more crucial than pure grit. And that was on show at the King Power Stadium last night.
An early goal from Aleksander Mitrovic - his 11th in the 15 games he's played - proved enough on the night, but boy did we have to work for it.
Mitro's goal came from a pinpoint ball from Willian; the Brazillian is in the midst of a career renaissance reminiscent of the likes of Danny Murphy and Aaron Hughes more and a decade ago.
Special credit goes to Bernd Leno, who pulled off a few game-defining saves against a Leicester City side who might feel slightly aggrieved to come away with nothing for the third game in a row. Harry Wilson had the chance to seal the result in the dying minutes, but prodded wide. He'll come good again.
Since those in the modern game love stats, how are these for you? We've equalled our 2020/21 points tally with 20 games to play. We're 14 points away from Forest in 18th, but just two from Spurs in fourth. Oh, and we play them this month.
This is a special side - and another special season. We've got Marco Silva - he's a genius.
WHAT THEY SAID
▪️Marco Silva: [Leno is] a top, top goalkeeper and he’s performing at a very high level in my opinion, which is not a surprise. All the fans should enjoy having a goalkeeper like him in their team.
▪️Bernd Leno: Best way to start the year with a win and a clean sheet.
▪️Jack Collins: Three wins on the spin since coming back from the WC for Fulham. seventh in the table. A fluid win, a late win, a scrappy win - but that’s nine massive points. Marco Silva has SW6 dreaming of Europe again.
