Fulham 3-2 Wolverhampton Wanderers - The look back
VAR will take the headlines, but who cares? The Whites secured their fourth win of the season, under the Monday night lights.
The debate over VAR will continue all season and beyond, but the only headline that matters to us is that the Whites bagged three points.
We didn’t need a video assistant ref when we took the lead after just seven minutes. Antonee Robinson found Alex Iwobi in the box, who slotted home, capping his recent impressive performances with a goal.
Robinson went from hero to villain 15 minutes later, when he was turned inside out by Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, who found an unmarked Matheus Cunha. He duly headed home.
There was a tonne more action after the break. Tom Cairney, who put in a timeless performance, won us a penalty, and Willian – seemingly our new designated penalty taker – dispatched from the spot after seemingly hours of VAR deliberation. It was 100% a foul, by the way.
With 15 minutes of normal time left, Wolves had their own penalty. Ream smashed into Hwang Hee-chan – you didn’t need VAR for it, but it was used anyway, and the Korean slotted his spot kick home.
The game wasn’t over – and neither was VAR. during the seven minutes of added time, Wilson was brought down in front of the Hammy End. The ref waved play on, but after a review, it was time for the third penalty of the evening. And Willian made no mistake.
Gary O’Neil and Wolves will say they’re hard done by, but this writer can’t see anything wrong with either decision. And even without them, the Whites did enough to see the visitors off.
It’s a huge win ahead of our trip to Anfield on Sunday. You Whites.
What they said
Marco Silva: It was an entertaining game with both teams trying to win the game, but I think overall we were the team that did more to win. The players deserved the praise after a tough month for us. The previous two games were back-to-back defeats, we wanted to react and the players have showed a reaction.
Tom Cairney: That was bit more like it last night. Shout out to the coolest man in the stadium, Willian.
Dan Cooke: The way TC has grown and adapted under Marco is wonderful. He’s matured, but also developed a tenacity that has allowed him to play deeper. Injuries killed him, if we could combine this TC, with him in his prime under Slav, we’d have had an all-timer. Not far off Dembélé-esque.

Yep, a tough one! But it’s been a while since we’ve had a lovely scalp. And we’ve done it at Anfield before...
