Fulham 3-1 Sheffield United - The look back
The Whites got back to winning ways with a victory over the Premier League's basement boys at Craven Cottage.
Who says we can’t score?
We’re heading into the international break on a win – and boy, did we need it. It came against a Sheffield United side who – with all respect – offered very little. We even had to score their goal for them!
There was very little to write home about during the first 45 minutes. The half was marred by a terrible ankle injury to Blades stalwart Chris Basham. The game was halted for more than 15 minutes while medics tended to the defender, who was comforted by Fulham captain Tim Ream. Basham left to stadium-wide applause, and the disruption definitely impacted the game, with the sides going in level at the break.
The second half saw the Whites start much brighter, and we got our reward on 53 minutes, with Bobby De Cordova-Reid, brought into the starting XI for Harry Wilson, coolly slotting home after a lovely ball from Andreas Pereira.
The lead didn’t even last 15 minutes, however, as Antonee Robinson turned Yasser Larouci's ball into our own net. The ding-donger of a second period continued eight minutes later, when substitute Tom Cairney scored what in real-time looked like a wonderful strike, but upon viewing the replay hit his shin and then the back of Blades keeper Foderingham’s head. It went down as an OG, but that didn’t stop TC celebrating in front of the Hammy End.
The game was wrapped up two minutes into the eight added on, when Willian scored what can only be described as an archetypical Willian goal, giving us all three points and condemning Sheffield United to a fourth straight defeat.
A break now for the boys, before we head to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to face the league’s latest breath of fresh air™. Hopefully it goes the same way as our Carabao Cup game. You Whites.
What they said
Marco Silva: Job done and well done in my opinion. We deserved three points, it was an important win for us and in some moments, very well played from ourselves.
Tim Ream: (300 appearances) never achievable without my family, trust from managers, teammates, coaches, staff, and backroom. Sprinkle in some adversity, perseverance, grit, and a lot of fun along the way. It’s a decent recipe.
Jack Collins: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Fulham are always a much better side when Bobby is on the pitch. Our best finisher, and an absolute handful. Most underrated player at the club.
