Fulham 3-0 Aston Villa - The look back
Fulham 3-0 Aston Villa
What an evening at the Cottage.
Fulham brushed aside an abject Villa side under the lights, but don't let the Gerrard-focused headlines fool you - the Whites were incredible.
The first half was as good as we've played in the top flight in the last decade. We dominated our visitors, and we got our reward as Harrison Reed rifled past Martinez. He's getting good at this goalscoring stuff.
The second half was more eventful. First, Douglas Luiz saw red after VAR adjudged him to headbutt Mitro - a silly thing to do even without cameras about.
We made the advantage count. First Mitro won a pen after Cash handballed in the box. He then dispatched said penalty, despite Martinez's best efforts. The night was rounded off after Kebano's acutely angled shot rifled in off a Villa body. Victory was ours, if it was ever in doubt.
We're top half, we're six points above the relegation zone, and Gerrard was dismissed before most of us had even got home and brushed our teeth. The definition of 'lovely stuff'.
WHAT THEY SAID
▪️Marco Silva: It was a great evening for us. It was a well-deserved three points and a great performance as well. Our first half was top level in my opinion. The way we played, the way we created chances, the way we were dominant, the way the players performed under our plan. We planned something, they understood and they performed really well.
▪️Aleksander Mitrovic: Mentally I'm in the best shape of my life. The manager built the team for me and they are playing for me. If I make a run a feel like no matter what they will find me.
▪️Jack Collins: Brilliant tonight from Fulham but abject from Villa. Completely outplayed from first whistle to last. Willian the best player on the park, but Palhinha and Robinson not far behind.
