Fulham 2-0 Nottingham Forest - The look back
It was as routine a win as they come - but that's still a novel concept for a Fulham side in the Premier League. Enjoyable.
Well, that was… nice, wasn’t it?
We came into this game thinking we should win, then we did. And with two goals of sublime quality, the latter even adding a healthy dose of emotion. In terms of a great Saturday, this one ticked a lot of boxes.
Forest were forced to dig deep into their well of talent after just seven minutes, when amazingly both centre-backs came off with identical injuries. It set the tone for a fortuitous afternoon for the Whites.
On 17 minutes Willian continued to roll back the years, curling a beauty into the top-left postage stamp region. We could - nay, should - have been two or three up by the break, with Mitro beating two Forest defenders but failing to score, while Bobby De Cordova-Reid rattled the crossbar from distance.
The introduction of Jonjo Shelvey just before the hour added more structure and creativity to Forest, but we continued to threaten; Willian struck the post with a strike to rival his earlier goal, and Andreas hit the crossbar with a free-kick.
But with just two minutes of normal time left, Andreas found an unmarked Solomon, who’d come on just 16 minutes earlier. He has plenty of time to steady himself and slot past Navas, to cap his return from injury and put a full stop on what was a tricky 2022 for the Israeli.
That’s our 10th win of the season. And it’s the equivalent of Christmas in a non-World Cup season. Astounding from the boys.
What they said
Marco Silva: If I had doubts, I wouldn't have signed [Willian]. Never. Doubts about his quality? It's impossible. He's a class, class player. What he's doing for us is no surprise at all. You saw it week in, week out. I'm a privileged guy because I can see it every single day.
Antonee Robinson: Doesn’t get much better than a win and clean sheet at home. Great shift from the lads, thanks as always to the fans for the great support!.
Farrell Monk: Tim Ream is seriously in danger of winning another player of the season trophy.
