Fulham 1-2 Manchester United - The look back
Fulham 1-2 Manchester United
Two Manchester sides. Two late goals. Two defeats.
This one hurts more than the Etihad because, over the course of the 90 minutes, we were the better side against a decent Manchester United team. But ultimately, we've come away with nothing again and must spend the World Cup break chewing on a loss.
United went ahead in the first 15 minutes through Christian Eriksen, who made sure to get a dig in at the Hammy End as he celebrated.
We came out in the second half far brighter, and forced De Gea into a number of saves as we looked to get something from the game.
Our equaliser came on the hour, as substitute Dan James finished a low Cairney cross to open his account for the Whites against his old club.
The final throes of the game were back and forth, as neither side looked happy with a point. And it was United who bagged the winner, as Garnacho finished a break, slotting past Leno to send the travelling fans into dreamland.
We have six weeks to lick our wounds now. And six weeks to prepare for a monumental second half of the season. You Whites.
WHAT THEY SAID
▪️Marco Silva: Of course it’s really tough to take. Twice in seven days for us with a late goal. But this one is different [to City] because I think we were the best team on the pitch and we deserved much more from the game, definitely. Last week was slightly different.
▪️Dan James: Gutted not to get anything out of the game today! Thanks for all your support, see you after the break.
▪️Jack Kelly: Perspective is so important. If someone told us fans we’d go into the World Cup in the top half on 19 points, we would have been really pleased. Last couple games have been so tough, so gutting but so many positives. Let’s regroup and go again on Boxing Day.
