Fulham 1-2 Huddersfield - The look back
Fulham 1-2 Huddersfield Town
They say you learn more in defeat than in victory. Well, school’s in session, as the boys lost only their fifth game this season.
And, let’s be honest, there’s no shame in losing to fifth-placed Huddersfield, who are unbeaten since November and a far cry from the side we trumped 5-1 earlier in the season.
The visitors were two up by the break, thanks to a Danny Ward strike and a soft penalty after Rodak brought down Thomas in the box. It capped a bad day at the office for our Slovakian ‘keeper, and the damaging 12-minute period defined the match.
We pulled one back towards the end of a hard-fought second half, thanks to De Cordova-Reid, but it wasn’t enough, and Huddersfield remain the only unbeaten Championship side in 2022.
Luckily, there’s not long to wait to put this one right, as Peterborough visit the Cottage on Wednesday. COYW.
WHAT THEY SAID
▪️ Marco Silva: We were the best team on the pitch, definitely. They got a goal from a mistake from ourselves - the striker reacted quicker than our defender - and after the decisive moment of the match was the penalty. It was a clear mistake by the referee. It was never a penalty - the player fell on our goalkeeper and the decision was strange for me because it was a clear mistake. Marek didn't do anything.
▪️ Bobby De Cordova-Reid: The goals we conceded, we’re not happy with them, and obviously they put us in a position where we’re chasing the game. I think maybe if it’s 1-0 at half-time then we’ve got a better chance of coming out second half and getting something. But at the same time, we gave it a good go, unfortunately we couldn’t get the second goal, but I feel there’s positives to take out of it, with the way we played and the way we attacked.
▪️ Jack Collins: One of those, for Fulham. Poor first half, better second, but it just didn’t feel like it was to be. Add it to some questionable decisions and it is what it is. Put it behind, put it right on Wednesday night.
