Of course things have not worked out how we hoped. From the first 33 seconds of the season AA has been under pressure. Our biggest problem is that we are unable to see out games. We have dropped 8 points, which would have seen us in 7/8 place. Instead we are bottom.
It has been unfortunate that TC has been injured. He would have helped get us over the line.
Like many, I am confounded on some of the substitution choices made. Have there been injuries, or is he just trying to quell the dressing room and give everyone a game.
I was very positive about AA coming in, we were getting very stale. But I guess it like Mike Tyson said”Everyone has a plan until you get punched in the face”.
I’m hoping for a Rocky ending, whilst we go through this rocky patch-“. “ADR-EEAN!!’ Arms raised, as we get into a comfortable 12th place, with a cup in the trophy cabinet.
Always looking for a happy ending but this is the bitter sweet phase before we turn it around. Like to see AA running up those steps.
I think you hit on something about Tony. When he took over creative at AEW, the stories became a jumbled incoherent mess (seemingly written by a child playing with wrestling action figures in the sandbox) and many, many viewers myself included stopped watching.
Clearly Tony is not “scripting” the season, but if you watch some of his screwball wrestling related interviews it is pretty easy to picture him saying something along the lines of “we’re going to bring in a coach who has managed the best team, from the best league, then buy a bunch of their developmental players, and it’ll be a Cinderella season about them conquering the premier league”. The crazy nonsensical substitutions even fit into this scenario. Is Tony in AA’s ear DURING the match recommending substitutions based on how good the story could be?
Did anyone really think developmental la Liga players were ready to jump into the deep end of the EPL? I had high hopes and low expectations for this season, but the khans and AA managed to find the floor of my expectations and keep digging.
Seriously frustrating to watch the club that has been tattooed over my heart since the Dempsey days being made a laughingstock for the amusement of a cocaine fueled rich kid.
I hate to complain without suggesting a solution, I believe we need to cut our losses, fire AA, bring in a competent manager who can put together a coherent strategy with the (considerable amount) of talent we have…and maybe a time for change of leadership.
Also time to find a new keeper for when Berndt returns to DEU next year.
The truth hurts but your article is both truthful and draws very sound conclusions .
We don't have time to give Arbeloa a chance to change things , as we need a new manager in place by the start of November , so he can assess the key additions we need to our squad so that we can stay up . Stick with Arbeloa any longer and we are doomed , as our squad is not good enough
Tough to argue with a lot of this! If we don't get results from the next couple of games then I think the writing could be on the wall, although I'm willing them on to get these results! if we had got a couple of the results that the team should have held on for, I could have seen this team kicking on.
The one thing that AA has got wrong from day 1 is getting the fans onside. The opening game of the season, walking out before anyone else without any introduction and acknowledging the fans...... to walking off after throwing away another 3 points against Ipswich. Such a simple thing that you would have thought the club would drive!! The subs against ipswich were a concern.
I have to agree. We have decent players underperforming. The substitutions are bonkers. If Angel & ESR are the answer what is the question? As you say we need a RB but also cover for Charles, I don’t know maybe a Lukic who incidentally was my POTM on Saturday- pity he was in a blue shirt. Gonzalo is a passenger in this team & cant, I think with both Bobb & King. Muniz needs a run. Can Arbeola change his system? I don’t think so. If he can’t we need to change the coach. Hull has to be make or break.
I was pro AA but two things have changed my view. Inept subs and a failure to read the closing moments of a game- which is a basic skill for a PL manager. Second his communication skill to players , press and fans. He is out of his depth. Lose Saturday and he will be gone . They must already be lining up Frank etc
We have plenty of time of course and this is not the time to panic. The team is in transition. Tony Khan should assess progress at Christmas and not repeat his Meulensteen mistake.

COYW - big result needed next weekend.

I’m worried that the manager isn’t pragmatic, the defence can’t cope with the high line
