Positives and Negatives: Brentford 2-3 Fulham
Written by Jack Stroudley on 19th May 2025

It’s very easy (and I’ve been guilty of this throughout the season) to focus on the table and points, but Sunday was an example of how you need to cherish the moments throughout a season. Fulham came from behind to beat our noisy and less relevant neighbours 3-2. It may not mean anything in relation to the European race but it’s a result we’ll relish , but what are the main reflections on the result?
Positives
Who put the ball..
It had to be him didn’t it? Harry bloody Wilson secured all three points at the GTech, Legoland – whatever you want to call it. Fulham lacked a dynamism throughout large chunks of the game and our Welsh wizard came on and provided the decisive moment in Kew. A beautifully curled goal left Brentford keeper Mark Flekken rooted to the spot; a euphoric moment in the away end that sent Fulham fans into bedlam. I truly believe Wilson is the answer on the right-hand side if he can keep fit. He’s incredibly clinical once he’s got a chance, Fulham have looked a bit toothless in recent weeks but if Wilson can keep fit we’ll be in good stead next season.
Ain’t nobody
You couldn’t have written a better script with club captain and legend TC providing the equaliser off the bench. When he came on the Sander Berge I said to my mates that we’d either be leaving on 70 or winning the game, thankfully it was the latter. I actually thought that if you ignored the goal he was exceptional with his ability to be creative from deep. His goal will be the main talking point, it reminded me of his equaliser against Bolton under Slav the way it landed the bottom corner.
TC is Fulham, he truly is. I’ve never been more grateful to have someone as a captain; he gets what it means to be FFC. If this is it then I’m more the the content, a modern day legend signing off. Joining us during the dark times, the opportunity to join West Ham but sticking with it and he’s reaping the rewards. Cairney is that guy: proper proper Fulham.
Josh King again.
Josh King, I am alert and paying attention. What a player we have on our hands. It was interesting that at 2-1 Marco decided to bring on King rather than Andreas Pereira, but it worked. The youngster was vibrant throughout and was a nuisance to the Brentford defence. He showed for the ball more than a certain record signing and was a constant thread.
He was obviously desperate to impress and impress he did, King has well and truly staked his claim to be a mainstay in the squad and I really think next season is his time to sign. He’s the long term answer in the 10. Josh King is Fulham.
Have you ever been in Europe?
What a shame, eh? Brentford you will never be Fulham. A League Two club pretending to be a Premier League organisation. A quiet and bleak fanbase who all supported Chelsea when the likes of Mark Warburton was at the club, Griffin Park is a figure of speech to them, they’ll never be Fulham.
A morgue like atmosphere at the GTech, soulless and shameless. Fulham have shown they’re the real pride of West London, watch it and drink it in. Hey Jude, don’t be afraid, just sing a sad song.
Negatives
Look, it wasn’t complete the performance but as I mentioned at the start of this article, football is all about moments. Sunday was a serious moment. Fulham battled hard to get back into the game and showed serious tactical nous to see it out. It may not mean a lot in the grand scheme, but Fulham have minerals, they may not show it as often as we’d like but they have. A record breaking season, have it Brentford, Thomas Frank drink it in and wash the grease out of your hair.
