January transfer rumour round-up: Part 1

Written by Cameron Ramsey on 10th January 2022

Cam‘s back to sift through the latest Fulham transfer whispers, and if you didn’t know who we’d been somewhat loosely connected to, you certainly will now.

There really isn’t a great deal to raise our voices about where incoming transfer rumours are concerned, however we’ve a tantalising trio here for you to mull over, and we hope that by the time our next round-up edition emerges, we’ve plenty more to explore.

Anyway, you won’t catch us slipping with perennial Dwight Gayle drivel, so you can count yourselves lucky that we haven’t shoehorned him in to make up the numbers. Three’s a crowd, so let’s get this belated New Years gathering underway.

Angelo Fulgini – SCO Angers

Fulham have been widely linked with SCO Angers’ Angelo Fulgini in recent weeks but now, according to The Sun, the Whites’ proposed interest in the 18m-rated Frenchman could be dead in the water. The tabloid suggests that fellow Ligue 1 outfit Olympique de Marseille are in the hunt for the former France U21 international’s services, and the prospect of remaining in a top-flight division could be all too alluring to ignore.

Fulgini has scored 3 goals, alongside 2 assists in 18 games this season for Gerald Batile’s side, and though Fulham are not a Premier League outfit, planning for a potential return to the big-time is necessary given our position in the Championship standings, so Fulgini wouldn’t be a terribly meritless addition, if he lives up to his fairly weighty price tag.

Josh Bowler – Blackpool

Muted noises of Anthony Knockaert’s departure from SW6 have arisen this week and subsequently, as per TEAMtalk, Fulham have been included amongst a handful Championship clubs that are tailing Blackpool’s Josh Bowler. The 22-year-old joined the Tangerines from Everton in the summer, penning an initial 12-month deal with an option to extend by a further year.

Bowler has impressed at Bloomfield Road this season, and he even netted the winner for the seasiders against the Whites in early September. His exploits have alerted the likes of Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City and Nottingham Forest, however the Chertsey-born winger is more than familiar to Motspur Park and the surrounding areas. He was released from our youth set-up in 2011, and after a brief spell at Aldershot FC’s academy, he then joined Queens Park Rangers in 2013, where he progressed through the ranks to make his senior debut in March 2017.

Okay Yokuslu – Celta Vigo

Midfield reinforcements are seemingly top of Fulham’s recruitment drive and while the Cottagers are supposedly keen to acquire Celta Vigo’s Okay Yokuslu on loan, Foot Mercato’s Sebastien Denis has disclosed via his Twitter account that Marco Silva’s promotion hopefuls are not alone in their pursuit of the Turkey international.

Denis is under the impression that Yokuslu is being monitored by FC Girondins de Bordeaux and Galatasaray SK, too, although as the 27-year-old holding midfielder has experienced English football once before with West Bromwich Albion, Fulham may hold the edge over their continental bidding rivals. It’s also thought that the player in question fancies himself as a Premier League competitor. Silva simply has to guide his boys to promotion for that ambition of Yokuslu’s to become a reality once more.
