I concur Drew. It’s actually better for your mental health to be optimistic & accentuate the positives. I also take heart from the fact that, unlike Palace, no one has been sold from underneath Silva. Reading the tea leaves that should mean Silva, and thus Wilson, will extend their stay.

Solid breakdown. The Pepi situation actually shows way more discipline than previous windows. Walking away instead of overpaying in January for an injured player takes real restraint especailly when fans are calling for signings. I've seen too many clubs rush into bad deals just to appease supporters and thenregret it all season. If the summer Pepi deal happens at a better price this'll look genius.

The club does seem to be thinking strategically and long term at last.

Wilson will stay or go, thats his decision, although I think he would be wise to stay where he fits in.

I think Silva can build something here, he may be tempted elsewhere but look at Frank, etc.

There are alternatives free in the summer.

Summer feels like the shit or bust on Silva. Wilson - if he goes he goes, he is 'easily' replaceable. Silva - I'm not so sure given our previous experience hiring managers.

A nice change to not have any panic signings. A CM would have been good though.

Actually only a front striker is needed IMO. When Muniz is back up & running then that need will be abated.

Some of your fellow scribes have dissed our defenders in recent articles - quite unpleasant. But as you point out we have moved to a new level of transfer business acumen. We probably will not - nor should - reach the spending mania of some.

An example is Saturday's match where the transfer market value of our defenders is ~€97M

(Robinson €30 + Bassey €28 + Andersen €25 + Castagne €10 + Cuenca €4)

Compares to Man U's forwards transfer market value of €295M

(Mbeumo €75 + Cunha €70 + Sesko €60 + Amad €50 + Fernandes €40)

That's 3X the spending; yet except for VAR incompetence (twice) we ought to have come away with all 3 points.

Not largely achieved Drew, just 33% achieved .The management failed to bring in the players Silva said he needed in the summer. Of the three positions that apparently they all agreed were needed in January all they have managed is the least important one, though Bob is potentially a good signing. They could have signed Pepi if they had negotiated seriously two weeks ago and not left it to the last couple of days when his club had no chance of replacing him.

Yes at least we haven't panic bought or loaned just any available player at the last moment so I agree that's an improvement, but I guess Silva must realise by now that nothing is going to change until we get a professional director of football in. And that's not likely is it.

It's not "the proof is in the pudding", it's "the proof of the pudding is in the eating"😆

One emerged from the other, but both are valid! But always nice to see someone's reached the end of my waffling, haha.
