Manchester United 2-1 Fulham - The look back
The season ends in defeat - but that's just a footnote. It's been an amazing campaign, with so many memories.
The Whites one up at Old Trafford, a Mitro flash point, and an eventual defeat. Sound familiar?
To lay this on our Serbian striker though would be unfair. We battled at Old Trafford, but we fell to the better side.
You could tell we were up for avenging our FA Cup defeat; we took the lead early on as Kenny Tete capped a fine season with a pinpoint headed goal from a corner.
We had the bit between our teeth; soon after Tete’s opener, Cairney was brought down in the box by Casemiro. You don’t get many spot-kicks at Old Trafford, so when you get them you better not miss. But miss Mitro did – his fourth blank from 12 yards this season.
It’s a difficult conversation to have, and the alternatives might not be obvious, but summer is the perfect time to quietly shift penalty duties off Mitro. He ended the campaign as joint 10th top scorer in the league this year – his missed penalties would’ve put him in fifth. Thankfully, the five points those misses cost us wouldn’t have impacted our league position.
As is the way at Old Trafford, United exploited the incident to turn the game around. Sancho poked home before the break, before Bruno Fernandes put United ahead 10 minutes after the restart thanks to a wonderful ball from future Fulham legend Fred. Not quite as swift as in March, but equally as merciless.
A 16th defeat of the season, then. But the 15 in the W column more than makes up for it. We have a big summer ahead, but the next couple of weeks should be spent enjoying what’s just been. After all, who knows when we’ll have it this good again? You Whites.
What they said
Marco Silva: We didn't deserve to lose the game. The game changed completely from [the penalty save]. We should have reacted in a different way. It was a moment for us to show maturity and handle the game in a different way but we haven't done that. The game showed again our quality and what we are doing with these players. All season have to be really proud of what we did.
Bernd Leno: What a season it’s been! Thank you for your support every single day.
Jack Kelly: Incredible season. Surpassing all expectations and stamping our authority on the Premier League. We are Fulham, so very proud of Marco Silva, the players and the whole club.

We’ve been safe for a while, so we will hopefully have plans A, B and C in place. But the Khans repeatedly say the value is in the dying embers of the summer, so hold tight…
