Liverpool 2-1 Fulham - The look back
The Whites were narrowly defeated at Anfield - but we're still right in this.
It was entertaining, and it ultimately didn’t go our way - but there’s still everything to play for.
It was all going so well in the first half. A strong start was capped off by a fantastic Willian goal and we went in at the break wondering whether an upset was on the cards.
But Liverpool turned it up after half-time, and the introduction of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo ultimately change the game.
The equaliser came through Curtis Jones, whose shot deflected off Tosin’s back to fool Leno. It sent us into a spin; just three minutes later Liverpool were 2-1 up, thanks to Gakpo.
It could’ve been so difference. Minutes before Liverpool’s equaliser, Bobby De Cordova-Reid was clear on the right, with Pereira in the middle of the box ready to receive. But the Jamaican winger opted to shoot, with was casually mopped up by Liverpool ‘keeper Kelleher. 2-0 might’ve been a different story.
But alas, it wasn’t to be. But it’s only half-time - and we’ve been here before. Juventus in the Europa. Derby in the play-offs. The first leg is just the prologue. Now the story begins. You Whites.
What they said
Marco Silva: Two different halves. It wasn't our best performance but even so, in the first half we had a plan. We were ruthless from the first moment and it was really good from Willian when we scored. The second half was different and we struggled a bit more. We should manage them in a different way.
Joao Palhinha: In the same way that nothing was gained today, nothing was lost either! We will give everything to change this tie at home.
Elizabeth Barnard: All to play for when we’re back at the cottage. That was all I wanted out of tonight, but a bit sickening to lose it like that. Let me take a sweet five working days to bring my heart rate back down.
