Nice article, good to see a refreshing positive take on things. I think there were lots of positives to take from his performance against Villa..

I think it’s clear Garcia is a good striker but he just hasn’t had luck on his side recently. If he keeps creating chances and getting into good positions, the goals will come. Starting 30 senior games up front for Madrid is no easy feat and he had an impressive goalscoring record there.

It’s not like Arbeloa is the only one who rates him either. After winning the Golden Boot at the Club World Cup last summer he had several top European sides after him (bids from Dortmund, Juventus, Roma, Leipzig, Sunderland, Villa, Brighton all mentioned)

Thoughtful take, Drew. It's the vibe I'm getting too, so thanks for putting the thinking and the eloquence in. Hope it all changes soon, for all of our sakes, then we could have some fun!

Don’t see it and I’m not an AA hater. I think we are threadbare upfront and need to invest urgently in that position. Garcia has Poor touch at crucial moments, inability to make insightful run to attack crosses, weak, can’t hold the ball up. Maybe he’ll come good. It takes some players at least a season to acclimatise to the role. I hope we can get a reliable striker in January and take the pressure of the kid and see if he can grow into the role. Shame we lost Jimenez.

I don't see it. He's so jittery in his play, constantly stiffing balls rather than stroking them (fnar fnar). Also frequently doesn't make the right movements in the box. I think he has some decent game, but there's no semblance of a natural striker there for me, we need someone better.

GG like most CFs is almost wholly dependant on service from the team. The team itself is not 100% gelled yet. Once that settles, GG will get the service he needs and will start to bag goals. Its like expecting a chef to dish up a meal when the ingredients have only just been ordered.

Not really. The ingredients are already there.

Not really, otherwise he would be scoring. You say "It takes some players at least a season to acclimatise to the role" , then say " the ingredients are already there". Make your mind up. Its not just GG that will take time. Alot of our players will take time.

The ingredients as a team around him. Jimenez would have scored a few on the opportunities given. Garcia is costing us goals.

Mitrovic would be approaching double figures already. I think we should have higher ambitions than hoping for a 'purple patch'. I want my striker to have scored some pychological points as soon as he steps on the pitch. I want him to dominate that penalty area on his own. I want him to be the maypole everyone dances around. Sigh
