That's the flipside, isn't it - for as frustrating as our mid-table finishes have been, there's also a positive to being nowhere near the perils our opponent yesterday are in. Better stability than doings a Leeds, after all...
I think this is the big unknown for the next 12 months. How will the new rules work? Possibly even more importantly - how will they be enforced?
The financial upsides of the Europa Conference League already seem meager, but will the new Squad Cost rules make us happy we didn't finish 8th? I get that this sounds like sour grapes, but the financial rules shifting under everyone's feet make it hard to predict what fans *should* be happy about.
That being said, drawing with the team at the bottom of table is not something I'm happy about.
Definitely agree Doug. It's part of the reason I'm not completely enraged by everything right now - the season feels more disappointing because we know we're capable of beating sides like Wolves, and potentially pushing into the European places, but they've still maintained a decent PL finish for the fourth year running. It's a solid platform financially to have regular PL football and a stable squad - it's just wanting the club to push forward in a manner that gives Silva and a potential successor what they need to take us to the next level.
Didn't get to see today's match but stayed in touch, growing sadder with every passing empty minute. I feared such a performance and outcome.
As always, your recap perfectly covers every detail of the match without going off the rails about coach or players. Thank you!
But I will go over one particular cliff from today's video highlights - absolute shock over Robinson's nonchalance in taking the PK. Why him? OK, he scored but it was awful. That was not calm confidence or thoughtful strategy, he simply looked like someone who could not have cared less, the last thing the team needs..
Thanks! And yes, I also felt quite glum about the result. It does feel like the team are out of ideas at the moment, and will need some intervention over the summer months.
I will disagree slightly on Robinson's penalty... ultimately they just need to be scored, and so long as they end up in the back of the net I don't particularly mind how the player looks when they take it (body language is rather nebulous as a field of study, because how many times has a player looked cool and calm and then made a mess of the spot-kick? Probably enough examples from Fulham alone...) Robinson definitely has his mind on the World Cup, but he took control of the situation and made sure we at least got a point from the game, which is more than can be said for a few other players in the game.
The commentary on the peacock feed made a point about Fulham having the second smallest squad in terms of players used this season. That was a surprise and then again not, yes the team looks stale and has run out of ideas and one injury tends to throw us off. If Marco goes as I suspect he will I will blame Ali Mac and the Khans for not having ever given him the squad he wanted and always signing players too late. We will never know what he could have done if he had been given the resources he requested.
We need to dump half of our players and bring in better ones, you get what you pay for and this proves it we are nowhere near good enough and someone needs to take the blame for those signings is it our scouts,Marco, Macintosh or the Khan’s. None of our players seem capable of scoring Wolves were the better team and they are bottom of the league ffs.
I would take mid table next year if Fulham have to adjust their finances to new rules

Mid table teams are frustrating but safe and I’m here for it because I remember the first relegation I don’t want that feeling again.
