Brilliantly researched piece on penalty statistics. The Mitro exclusion based on that 66.6% conversion rate compared to the 78% PL average is data-driven rigor most fans would overlook. I've always thought context matters hugely with penalty stats tho, like whenthey're taken matters as much as pure percentages. Murphy's consistency across competitions is genuinely insane.

Thanks! Yep, couldn't call Mitro deadly with only two-thirds scored, as good as he was in other areas! We're lucky with Raul on pens - just not so lucky in how many we're awarded!

Mitro was a terrible penalty taker! The only one of these when i couldn't look as he ran up....

Special mention probably deserved for the ice man Heidar Helguson

True - he was 100%, but only took four so didn't make the cut!

They literally rolled snails pace in to the net

Not much wrong with the article except that Murphy himself scored the rebound from the saved penalty against Man City (I remember the radio commentary as if it was yesterday) and Berbatov scored more goals for four other clubs than he did for Fulham. Never mind, we still love you Fulhamish.

Hi Richard - bang on with the rebound, I amended that (my memory conflated the two goals from that game!).

Good spot on the Berba sentence - I meant penalties - d'oh! I need a proofreader.
