Fulham 2-1 Arsenal - The look back
The Whites signed off 2023 in the best way possible, with a scalp of title-chasing Arsenal at the Cottage.
What a way to end the year.
The Whites finally got their big six scalp – and did it against an Arsenal side that desperately needed a win to keep pace at the top of the table.
What’s more, we did it with a confident, and dare we say it, commanding performance, coming from behind for the first time in 26 games.
Arsenal’s goal came after just five minutes, as Bukayo Saka gobbled up a Martinelli shot that was parried by Leno. But instead of letting our heads dropped, we rallied – Silva had a plan.
We equalised on 29 minutes. Willian fed Tom Cairney, who put a laser-focused ball across the box to Raul Jimenez, who marked his return from a three-match suspension with his fifth goal in seven games.
The winner came on the hour, when Bobby De Cordova-Reid finished from close range, following a bit of chaos in the box. With 30 minutes left, we continued to see Silva’s vision out, and fully deserved the win.
It takes us to 13th in the Premier League and arrests a slump of three straight defeats. There’s a break for FA Cup action now, before we return to league action at Stamford Bridge. A win there might not be considered a top six scalp, but it’d sure be welcome. You Whites.
What they said
Marco Silva: Really the best way to finish 2023, definitely. Our ambition was to finish on a high and react from the last two games. I really believe we deserve it. Over the 95 minutes we deserved it more.
Antonee Robinson: What a win to end the year! Thanks everyone for the support throughout 2023.
Harry Durham: Massive three points. Completely dominated Arsenal That is not a team that’s competitive for the title. Absolutely dire. Great bounce back from Fulham, roll on 2024.

Up next: Rotherham United (H)
It'll no doubt be a much-changed side for this Friday night tie, but we’ll still be hoping to embark on our second cup run of this campaign.
