Fulham 0-4 Manchester City - the look back
Unsurprising, yet uninspiring. Manchester City ran out comfortable winners at the Cottage.
This game was never about us.
It was about City edging closer to the Premier League title. It was about Arsenal pinning their hopes on us halting their rivals (instead of introspectively acknowledging their failings against us this term). Yes, this game had so little to do with Fulham Football Club that we failed to show up at all.
The result is a 4-0 defeat against a football side that is so far ahead of us they really should be in a different league. And they probably will be again one day, be that through our relegation or through the formation of a European Super League.
Anyway. Josko Gvardiol put the champions up 1-0 at half-time. Phil Foden scored just after the break, before Gvardiol added his second and City’s third. The game was wrapped up in injury time, when Issa Diop brought down Julián Álvarez in the box. Second yellow for Diop, penalty scored by Alvarez. Check mate.
It was meek. It was routine. It was typical Fulham versus Man City. We have a chance to finish on a high next week as we travel to relegated Luton Town. A win would give us our 13th win of the season - just two shy of our Premier League record. It’s been that kind of weird season. You Whites.
What they said
Marco Silva: It is difficult. They control the ball, control the game and take a lot of energy from you. Take a lot of emotion energy too. The crucial moments are when you win the ball back or they lose it and we need to try and make more of those moments.
Joao Palhinha: Difficult game against a top team ! We wanted to say goodbye in the last at home game with a different result ! Nothing change the good work that this team have been doing until today! Many thanks for all the support.
Sammy James: I respect City's quality, but my god I hate playing them so much. 16 consecutive defeats to them is a joke.
