From the Press Box: Trio out as Fulham return to action at Anfield
Jack Kelly gives all the updates from Marco Silva's pre-match presser.
After what’s felt like about a year, Fulham are back in action this weekend against Liverpool at Anfield. There are seven Premier League games to go and there’s still some hope of European football at the Cottage next season.
It’s been a long time without Fulham, so now it’s time to lock in for the final few weeks, with some massive games coming up, which start on Saturday against an out of form Liverpool, who have played and lost twice since Fulham beat Burnley.
Marco Silva confirmed that everyone who had gone on international duty were all in good conditions and ready for Saturday, but he confirmed that three Fulham players would miss the game.
“Kevin is going to be still out, Kenny (Tete) is in the same situation too. Harrison Reed is going to be out, he got a knock two days ago in the session and in his knee”, said Silva.
“It doesn’t look like anything really serious but he’s going to be out of the Liverpool game.”
Unfortunately, we won’t be seeing a repeat of Reed’s blockbuster goal on Saturday. But Fulham have been competitive at Anfield in recent times. Fulham have scored five goals in their last two visits to Anfield, but they’ve came out with only one point.
Silva was inevitably asked about his future, with the Portuguese still not giving much away:
"We have been speaking about many things. One of the things we've been talking about is our technical staff situation with the club. We have been talking. When the news is more clear, you are going to know.”
There was more fighting talk about the motivation to keep pushing for the goals of the season from Silva. There are some tricky tasks ahead of Fulham, but there’s plenty of quality within the squad to qualify for the Conference League, or even the Europa League.
The game against Liverpool is on the same day as the Grand National, meaning hotel prices for an overnight stay are through the roof. A 17:30 kick-off makes it awkward to get back to the train station to catch the last train. In my position, after all the post-match work, it’s almost entirely impossible.
So, I’ll be watching from home this weekend and will be back in the press box next week at the GTech when we face Brentford.
For those of you who are braving the journey, have a great day and bring home the points.
COYW!
