From the press box: Silva praises fans ahead of Eagles visit
Jack Kelly updates us from the latest press conference.
Tuesday night was a unique evening of football. It will be remembered for a long time, yet in this context forgotten about quickly as we move on to the next game.(although the nine-goal thriller was of course referenced in the presser this afternoon.)
Marco Silva provided no new team news. No news is good news. Some fans thought Kenny Tete had an injury after being subbed at half-time the other night, but it must have been for rotation purposes.
Samuel Chukwueze was the name on everyone’s lips from a Fulham perspective after the bonkers game on Tuesday. And that was no different today. Will Fulham sign him permanently? Here’s what Silva had to say:
“No talks. We have protected ourself with the deal. He’s been very good for us, let’s hope he can do the same things, in the next 1-2 games.
“We have an option as you know and when the moment comes for us to trigger or not, of course we are going to know and we are going to take the best decision always for the club.”
The clammer is loud from the fans. But Fulham hold a strong position, if he continues to impress, it will hopefully come to fruition.
Silva was appreciative of the fans’ support against Manchester City too.
“I mentioned to the players as well that the reaction from the fans with the team means more and speaks more than any words I can say for them.
“I mentioned to the players in the end of the match, let’s just take and go on with the reaction from the fans and you can think what that means. teams that lost at home, that conceded five goals at home, if they were with you, they were in that way, no one left the seat.
“Everybody was there after the final whistle, the players were, thank them and them to be with the players, it speaks about the emotions in that moment and what the players did.”
Silva confirmed that our three Nigerian players will report for national duty on Monday 15 December ahead of AFCON. Meaning all three will miss our trip to Newcastle in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.
A blow, but something most of us had already accepted. They’ll miss some key games, but hopefully they can make a positive impact against Palace and Burnley.
Loads more quotes to come, mainly tomorrow night from 22:30. That can be found on my X and Patreon pages. It’s been a tiring week for me, lots of games, goals, quotes, tweets, highs, lows and work! And, I love it. See you at the Cottage on Sunday.
