From the press box: Sessegnon new contract "a matter of time" says Silva
Jack Kelly was once again in attendance as Marco Silva previews our trip to Everton.
Fulham travel to Everton’s brand new stadium - ‘The Hill Dickinson’ - tomorrow in search of their first Premier League win away from home this season.
The main news from the press conference came in the embargoed section, which was Thursday night at 22:30.
I asked Silva about Ryan Sessegnon’s contract situation, which is due to expire at the end of the season. Sessegnon has stepped up in superb style this season, with Antonee Robinson still on the treatment table.
“I don’t have any doubts about the aim of Sess. We’d love to keep him in our football club & I think it’s going to be a matter of time for this”, Silva said.
The left-back scored last weekend against Wolves and is deserving of a new deal. He’s also a Fulham boy through and through. To have both Josh King and Ryan Sessegnon tied down would be great news for the club, and the fanbase.
So, onto Saturday. There’s another training session this morning at Motspur Park, but as it stands, Antonee Robinson will be the only guaranteed absentee on Merseyside. Three more first team players will have to miss out too, but it points to the depth of the squad when almost everyone is fit and firing.
Silva: “The scenario is much better for us. We have players competing for positions, which gives me a headache. We have training tomorrow, but Robinson is the only player out of the squad list.”
Whisper it quietly, but Fulham are unbeaten playing Everton away from home under Marco Silva.
Back-to-back wins in 2022/23 and 2023/24 at Goodison Park, then a penalty-shoot-out win in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals in December 2023. An agonising draw last season, with Beto equalising in the last moments of the game, after former Toffee Alex Iwobi put Fulham ahead.
But this will be a new experience for everyone connected with Fulham. A new stadium, environment, pre-match journey, a new away end, and in my case, a new press box.
I’m very excited to see what the Hill Dickinson press experience has to offer!
An 8am train from London Euston tomorrow morning. Luckily, I won’t be travelling Scott Alone, as my friends and brother are on the same train, there and back. While they guzzle several Buzzballs, I’ll stay sensible and sober.
Perhaps, a beer or two on the way home if Fulham get a positive result.
Enjoy your day on Merseyside, and come on Fulham!
