Burnley 2-2 Fulham - the look back
A frustrating afternoon as Fulham blow a two-goal lead at Turf Moor.
It’s been more than 70 years since we last won at Turf Moor. As 90 minutes ticked over on Saturday, it looked like we’d broken that curse. We did not.
Burnley striker David Fofana struck at the death to give the Clarets a point, and the travelling Whites fans were left wondering how we’d let a two-goal lead slip.
It all started so well. We went ahead 17 minutes in through Joao Palhinha, who flicked in from a corner. And before anyone had chance to catch their breath, we got a second, this time through Rodrigo Muniz, who bagged his first Premier League goal, latching onto a helluva ball from Antonee Robinson. The emotion on the young Brazilian’s face said it all.
Two up at the break and a plethora of second-hand chances meant we were in control, but it’s Fulham, so it never felt done and dusted. And so it proved; Fofana headed home on 71 minutes after indecision from Bernd Leno, who’s experiencing somewhat of a dip in form of late, and the on-loan Chelsea striker got the equaliser in added time, sliding home ahead of Tim Ream after a low ball across the box.
A point is more than we normally get up there, but contextually that’s a blow. Bournemouth at home next week is absolutely massive, as we look to avoid being dragged into the relegation scrap wormhole. You Whites.
What they said
Marco Silva: A very good performance from [Muniz]. A very good first half, good moments in the second half too. He's a young boy who works very hard.
Willian: We’re sad, because the way we played - we had control for almost 90 minutes. It was our game to win - we’re disappointed, because it’s always the same things. We need to improve in those situations.
Elizabeth Barnard: Burnley hadn’t got a point from a losing position this season. They were 0-2 down. All I can say is - you’re welcome x
