Burnley 1-1 Fulham: The Lookback
Burnley 1-1 Fulham
There's more than one way to view Wednesday night's point. You can see it as a valuable one, gained at a ground where, across the past 70 years, we've had little-to-no luck. Or you can see it as another missed opportunity to gain ground on a team in the bottom half of the table. Both are valid. One thing we can all agree on is the fact it wasn't a classic by any stretch.
A cagey first half preceded us taking an unexpected lead, as the ball hit the net off Aina's stomach from a corner. But it didn't last long, with Ashley Barnes bagging less than five minutes later. The equaliser didn't look good for Tosin, who was turned inside out by Jay Rodriguez, who slid a ball in between Andersen and Tete to Barnes, and the striker had all the time in the world to round Areola.
The draw leaves us six points behind Newcastle, with Sheffield United at home on Saturday night. We've got a lot of work to do, but it feels like we have the tools we need to do it.
WHAT THEY SAID
▪️ Scott Parker: It is a tough place to come, the ball is in play not a lot, it is scrappy. We got our noses in front and disappointed with the goal we have conceded. We take the point though. That is four points so far this week. When we get ahead we need to weather something. There were a couple of mistakes for their goal.
▪️ Tosin Adarabioyo: That was not good enough tonight. I’m always self critical, even after strong performances but way too many errors this evening. We gain a point, which is not what we came for but the focus will be even sharper this weekend.
▪️ Sammy James: I legitimately said that a point would be ok today, and I stand by that. Burnley is a tough place to go, and whilst we do desperately need wins, I think this one is fine. Same can't be said for Saturday though against Sheff Utd. 6 points to Newcastle, we can do this.
