As much as I like Marco I don’t understand why he isn’t sorting out our defensive and midfield problems,we are constantly being linked to wingers which isn’t a problem area it’s our defence that needs improvement, if Marco stays I hope he will sort this out.

I thought his muted celebrations at Sunderland were very un Marco like, and got me wondering about his future at the Cottage.

There’s a lot of talk about Marco taking Fulham as far as it can go. Maybe, but the opposite could be true as well - Marco taking Fulham as far as HE can get them. I think the Khans have shown a willingness to invest in the team to make them competitive for European qualification. While it’s risky and not ideal, another manager just might be able to get them over the hump.

I can see where you are coming from in this piece Alex. Great article. The only positive thought I have to offer is that we have in recent years signed some very exciting talent. Our squad has never been better or deeper and there is so much potential. Fulham have not won anything yet. Marco has an opportunity to push this group beyond Premier League stayers. I hope he hangs around to have a crack at something more.

I am slightly more positive on Marco staying that Alex is in this piece, simply because there will be a LOT of 'name' managers available after the World Cup (possibly held in CAF-ready Morocco to escape the garbage fire that is North America). Marco *is* very ambitious so how many clubs would he want to go to that would ALSO consider hiring him?

Is Marco enough of a 'name' for a club like Spurs - even as they'll have finished below us twice of late? Marco worked hard to get himself "in" the PL - does a UCL job in Portugal or Italy feel like a step backwards?

100% with you. I’m so curious what the market for Marco actually is. As you say, he doesn’t have the name for an elite/prestigious CL club (e.g., Man U, Juve, Madrid, Benfica). And I don’t see him giving up the control and stability he has at Fulham for one of the available jobs just below the CL-level, even though they have bigger spending power than Fulham they’ve proven to be poisoned chalices (e.g., Spurs, Forest). If a Villa, Everton, Newcastle or Roma became available I’d be more worried.

I personally think Marco is off in the summer. To a degree the Khans have backed Silva but in most of the windows the signings have come very late, taking away time at the training ground for Marco to work with the players. That said the Khans are pushing Fulham's spending to the max considering our FFP limitations. If Silva were at a bigger club than obviously the amount that could be spent on players would be bigger. Spurs for example. The way football is run now, it is pretty limited as to which clubs can actually win significant silverware. Unfair as it may seem the teams with the biggest spending allowance are more likely to win something. Marco is at the perfect age to test himself at a bigger club. I would be very sad to see him go but I think the writing is on the wall. One thing I would say though is the grass isn't always greener and at a bigger club the knives are out a lot quicker when things do not go well and Silva's teams, defensively, definitely have a soft under belly at times. Saying that, there is no doubt he has earned a crack at a so called big club.
