Yet another piece bemoaning the speed of new signings. It's not like the club can snap its fingers and force players to come to FFC. I'm much more concerned about quality over haste. Your 'child at Christmas' analogy is telling, it seems a few of the boys want almost anyone to sign as long as it's done quickly. These negotiations are tricky and often depend on other players movements before a club will release their player. We've done ok for the last few years so have patience, and faith. Also, by the way, please stop moaning about the Khan's, who have just written off yet another 70 million to help the club grow.
I think it's absolutely valid to be asking questions about transfer activity. My point is that these contract extensions are being packaged as something they're not - these are business-as-usual moves dressed up as new signings. These - bar perhaps Josh King - should have been sorted months ago.
The fact remains we're the only PL club yet to make a signing. That's newsworthy, and that's worthy of debate.
Where did I moan about the Khans? I floated the idea that perhaps our Director of Football (who, by the way, has nothing to do with writing off £70m - that is his father's money) was perhaps distracted by the venture he clearly devotes the majority of his time to.
Debate is healthy, and I welcome it - but criticism is not a dirty word.
Retention is absolutely important! But I'd argue enhancing the squad is more important, particularly when you consider the rest of the league is strengthening. If you merely retain then you're treading water as it rises. If your recruitment is astute and you do your due diligence than the gamble as you put it is mitigated.
We need to replace at least two wide players and a striker just to stand still. Let’s hope the club knows what it’s doing and that it’s fully aligned in strategy (ie bloody slow) with Marco who increasingly seems to be the only credible person running the club.
What a negative article...keeping TC,Tere and Robinson is massive...period. we possibly need another striker ,another strong middle of the park midfielder and a back and we are challenging for a better position than last season..ffs stop whinging and panicking like a little girl ,we all know the Kahns come in late transfer window deadline to bring in more recruitment!
It always surprises me that there are sections of fans who are so terrified of floating any opinion that isn't blind acceptance of anything the football club gives them.
Criticism is absolutely fine and a healthy thing to do. I think the contract extensions are 100% positive, but they also should have been wrapped up months ago (bar possibly King).
The Khans operate late in the window, sure - that has probably had a net positive impact in terms of money spent. But it has also had a negative impact in terms of bedding in. Would ESR have made more of an impact last season if he was brought in for a full pre-season. It's hard to argue against.
Oh, by the way - little (and big) boys whinge and panic too.

Retention is more important than recruitment. We know Tete and Cairney will fit in - whereas new signings are always a gamble.
